Vertical-lift cooler and freezer doors.

Cooler and freezer doors whose leaf lifts instead of sliding aside. For an opening with no wall beside it for a slider and no floor in front of it for a swing door.

Installed by our crews, or supplied material-only to the contractor on the job.

The opening size, the clear height above it and the room temperature. Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

No room beside the opening.

A slide door needs about twice the opening's width in clear wall. Racking, a column or a corner can take that wall away.

A vertical-lift door takes the room above the opening instead. The leaf lifts straight up, so it needs clear wall over the opening for its full travel.

Where the ceiling is too low for that, Jamison builds an overhead version that lifts and curves back to the ceiling. Jamison rates the overhead version from 32°F up, so it is a cooler door, not a freezer door.

What to settle before it is ordered.

  • Height above the opening

Measure from the top of the opening to the ceiling, and note anything in the way: pipe, conduit, sprinkler heads, unit coolers.

  • Speed and cycles

A vertical-lift door is not a high-speed door. If the opening cycles all shift, a high-speed door with a solid door behind it for shutdowns is the better answer.

    High-speed freezer doors
  • Heat on a freezer

The seals have to keep working below freezing. Ask where the door's heat runs before you buy it, and check that it works once it is in.

  • Line voltage

Tell us the voltage at the opening. A powered door ordered for the wrong voltage cannot be installed, and it cannot be sent back.

Sizes and working temperatures as Jamison Door Company publishes them, read 2026-10-14. Each door's page has the full data. We confirm the door against the opening before anything is ordered.

What is a vertical-lift freezer door?

A door whose leaf lifts up instead of sliding aside or swinging out. It suits an opening with no wall beside it for a slider and no floor in front of it for a swing door.

How much room does a vertical-lift door need above the opening?

A leaf that lifts straight up needs clear wall above the opening for its full travel. Measure from the top of the opening to the ceiling and send it with the opening size.

Can a vertical-lift door go on a freezer?

Yes. Jamison rates its vertical sliding freezer door from -20°F. Its overhead version is rated from 32°F, so it suits a cooler, not a freezer.

Is a vertical-lift door fast enough for forklift traffic?

It depends on the cycle count. Jamison publishes an opening speed of 10.7 in. per second on its powered vertical door. Where the opening cycles all shift, look at a high-speed door.

Do you install vertical-lift cooler and freezer doors?

Yes. Our crews install them, or we supply the door material-only to your contractor.

What do you need to quote a vertical-lift door?

The clear width and height, the height above the opening to the ceiling, the temperature on each side, the traffic and the line voltage.

Send the opening and the wall above it.

Clear width and height, the height to the ceiling, the room temperature and the line voltage. A photograph of the wall above the opening helps.
