First question

Solid hardwood, or luxury vinyl plank?

Solid hardwood.

The hardwood comes from Turman Hardwood Flooring. Two older names a buyer may remember are no longer carried; both of those companies are out of business.

Mid-job

Packing still stacked against the wall, a miter stand up, trim stock lying where it will be cut. What the work looks like between the delivery and the finished room.

We sell laminate flooring as well. It is not pictured here; call and ask what fits the room.

Case study · Whole-house flooring

He wanted heart pine. What he wanted was the variation.

One whole-house project: what the customer asked for, what we put in front of him, and what he chose.

A whole-house customer had settled on heart pine. Talking it through, what he kept coming back to was the color moving across the floor, not the species. So we put distressed white oak in front of him instead — ordered a sample box in, laid it out so he could see a run of it rather than one plank, and let him decide in the room.

He took the white oak. At the prices of the day, the heart pine was running approximately $15 a square foot and the white oak approximately $4.

Those were the numbers on that project at that time, not a price list. Material prices move, and yours depends on the species, the grade, the width and what the room needs. Ask and we will price the actual floor.

That is most of what this job is. Somebody arrives with a product in mind, and the useful question is what they liked about it.

Tell us the room. We'll match the width.
