Insulated Panels

Cold storage panels for coolers, freezers and cold rooms.

Insulated metal panels for the walls and ceilings of coolers, freezers and cold rooms: Kingspan QuadCore, 2 to 8 in. thick and foamed in place. A room held down to -20°F takes R-32 at minimum.

Installed by our crews, or supplied material-only to the contractor on the job.

Choosing the thickness is choosing the R-value.

Standard insulated panels run from 2 to 8 inches thick. Insulating value is roughly R-8 per inch, so choosing the thickness is choosing the R-value.

Most cooler and freezer panels we use now are foamed in place, not laminated. The foam is injected between two steel skins with tongue-and-groove edges. Compared with a laminated panel, there is very little chance of delamination, and the fire rating is better.

Minimum run is 1,000 square feet per color. A modified-polyester white and a plain polyester white are visibly different whites, and panels from two different runs can stand out beside each other, on a ceiling most of all. Order a room's panels together.

What goes into a cold room.

  • Cooler or freezer down to -20°F

R-32 minimum, about 4" at R-8 per inch.

  • The panel: QuadCore KS Shadowline Interior

Kingspan's interior room panel, with a double tongue-and-groove joint, for the walls and ceilings of coolers, freezers and food plants. Kingspan's current figures are on kingspanpanels.us.

  • Skins

G90 galvanized, white modified polyester, Plastisol (PVC-coated steel), 304 2B stainless, embossed and 304 2B stainless, shadow line.

  • A face for wash-down

CLEANsafe 120 is a PVC film laminated to the metal, ordered on the panel face where wash-down chemicals and humidity would take an ordinary paint finish apart.

  • Trim

When we supply the panels, the formed metal trims come with them, with the installation drawings and fastening details.

  • Doors

Jamison cooler and freezer doors, sized to the opening in the panel wall. They are special order: lead time runs five to six weeks, and they are not returnable.

  • The floor

A freezer room needs insulation under the slab too. GreenGuard XPS board goes under it.

What R-value does a freezer panel need?

For a cooler or freezer down to -20°F, R-32 minimum. That is about 4 in. of panel at R-8 per inch.

How thick are cold storage panels?

Standard insulated panels run from 2 to 8 in. thick, at roughly R-8 per inch. The temperature the room holds sets the thickness.

Foamed-in-place or laminated panels?

Most cooler and freezer panels we use now are foamed in place, not laminated. The foam is injected between two steel skins with tongue-and-groove edges. Compared with a laminated panel, there is very little chance of delamination, and the fire rating is better.

Will panels from two orders match?

Not always. Two runs of white can stand out beside each other, on a ceiling most of all. The minimum run is 1,000 square feet per color, so order a room's panels together.

Do you supply cold storage trim?

When we supply the panels, the formed metal trims come with them.

Who have you done cold storage work for?

Fat Head's (brewery), Great Lakes Brewing (brewery), Heritage Beverage (coors distributor) and a fishery co-op project in Craig, Alaska. Other cold-storage customers stay unnamed. Referrals on request.

Do you install cold storage panels?

Either way. Our crews install them, or we supply them material-only to the contractor on the job.
