Hurd replacement parts · Identify your window

Four checks to identify a Hurd window before you order a part.

Four things tell us which part fits: the type of window, the exterior finish, the year, and how the sash tilts. Here is where to find each one.

D.W. Ross is an independent supplier of Hurd replacement parts. Hurd is the name of the window maker, used here only to say which windows the parts fit.

Send what you have found. Even two of the four helps. Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Identify your window

Four checks, five minutes.

You don't need a model number. Hurd parts are matched on what the window is and when it was made.

Work down the list below, then send us what you found with a photo. If you can't find one, send the rest.

What to check.

  • 1. Type of window or door

Casement (cranks out from the side), awning (cranks out from the bottom), double-hung (slides up and down), sliding window, sliding patio door or swinging patio door.

  • 2. Exterior finish

Aluminum clad is a metal-covered exterior. Primed wood is a painted wood exterior. Tap it or look at the cut edge of the frame.

  • 3. Year

The year it was made is often etched in one of the four corners of the glass, or stamped on the spacer bar between the two panes. If you can't find it, tell us the year the house was built.

  • 4. Tilt style (double-hung only)

Tilt latches on top of the sash mean easy-tilt. No latches, and a sash that tilts when you press on the jamb liners, means compression-tilt.

Send a photo, even a poor one.

A phone photo of the window open, and one of the part that failed, is usually enough to identify it.

Where is the year on a Hurd window?

Often etched in one of the four corners of the glass, or stamped on the spacer bar between the two panes. If neither is legible, the year the house was built is a starting point.

I don't know if my windows are Hurd. How can I tell?

Check the glass corners and the spacer bar for a mark, and the hardware for a name. If you can't tell, send a photo and we will tell you what we see.

How do you know which part fits my window?

By four facts: the type of window or door, whether the outside is aluminum clad or primed wood, the year it was made, and the part itself. A photograph of the part, or of the window with the sash open, usually settles it. We confirm the match before anything is ordered.

Window or door type, exterior finish (aluminum clad or primed wood), the year it was made or the year the house was built, and the part. A photograph of the part, or of the window, speeds it up.
