Metl-Span, Falk or CENTRIA on the drawings? The Kingspan option.
Drawings that name a Metl-Span, Falk or CENTRIA panel. We do not sell those brands. We supply Kingspan cold storage panels, matched to what the specification asks the wall to do.
Installed by our crews, or supplied material-only to the contractor on the job.
The panel section of the specification, or the drawings that name the panel. Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
What a substitute has to match.
A panel specification names a product, but it is written around a wall: its thickness, R-value, joint, faces and fire testing. A substitute has to match those, line by line.
The architect of record decides whether a substitute is accepted. We send the Kingspan data so that decision is quick.
The brands on the drawings.
Metl-Span
A Nucor brand since August 2021. Metl-Span lists its CF Mesa wall panel for cold storage, 2 to 8 in. thick, in coverage widths from 30 to 44 in.
CENTRIA
Also a Nucor brand since August 2021, in the same Insulated Panel Group as Metl-Span.
Falk
FALK makes panels in Walker, Michigan, and in Europe. Its CSW 44 cold storage panel has a PIR core and a 44 in. working width.
What we supply: Kingspan QuadCore
KS Shadowline and KS Flat cold storage panels, 2 to 8 in. thick. Kingspan publishes about R-8 per inch at a 75°F mean temperature.
The Kingspan catalog, with data sheets
Line by line against the spec.
| Line in the spec | QuadCore KS Shadowline | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Thickness | 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 8 in. | Match the thickness or the R-value the drawing asks for. At about R-8 per inch, thickness is R-value. |
| Core | QuadCore. About R-8 per inch at 75°F mean temperature and about R-9 per inch at 35°F mean temperature, ASTM C518. | Compare R-values at the same mean temperature and by the same test method. |
| Module width | 24, 30, 36 or 42 in. | A different module moves every joint. Check the layout and the door openings against it. |
| Joint | Interlocking tongue-and-groove. | The joint is what makes a room hold. Compare the joint detail, not only the core. |
| Faces | Exterior and interior: 26, 24 or 22 ga. Imperial White siliconized modified polyester. | Gauge, finish and embossing. A wash-down room may need a coated or stainless face. |
| Length | 8 to 53 ft. | Check the longest panel on the drawings. |
Send the specification section.
Send the panel section of the spec, or the drawings that name the panel. We will show where the Kingspan panel matches and where it differs, so the architect can rule on it.
Questions buyers ask
Does D.W. Ross sell Metl-Span, Falk or CENTRIA panels?
No. We do not sell those brands and have no connection to them. We supply Kingspan cold storage panels and fire-rated mineral fiber wall panels.
Can a Kingspan panel replace a Metl-Span panel in a specification?
Often, where the thickness, joint, faces and fire testing line up. The architect of record decides on a substitute. We send the Kingspan data sheets for the comparison.
Who owns Metl-Span and CENTRIA?
Nucor. It bought both brands from Cornerstone Building Brands in August 2021 and put them in its Insulated Panel Group.
Where are Falk panels made?
FALK lists a plant in Walker, Michigan, and plants in the Netherlands and Germany.
What R-value does a cooler or freezer panel need?
For a cooler or freezer down to -20°F, R-32 minimum. That is about 4 in. of panel at R-8 per inch.
Do you install the panels or only supply them?
Either. Our crews install them, or we supply them material-only to the contractor on the job.
