Windows for Lorain's older houses.

About four in five homes in Lorain were built before 1980, and older houses rarely have stock-size openings. We supply windows built to the opening for Lorain and Sheffield rehabs, rentals and older homes.

D.W. Ross supplies windows; the contractor doing the work installs them. If you don't have an installer, we can recommend one from our list of trusted contractors.

Lorain, by the Census

An older-house town.

The Census Bureau's 2024 survey puts the median year built for Lorain housing at 1958. About one home in five dates from 1939 or earlier.

That age shows up at the window. The order starts with the opening you have, then the line that fits it and the budget.

We have worked in Lorain before. D.W. Ross supplied historic custom windows and doors for the Spitzer Hotel, a state historical preservation project.

Windows for Lorain jobs are quoted, ordered and picked up or delivered from West 63rd Street in Cleveland.

Do you supply windows in Lorain?

Yes. We supply windows across Cleveland and Northeast Ohio, including Lorain, Sheffield and Vermilion. Jobs are quoted, ordered and picked up or delivered from West 63rd Street in Cleveland.

Do you work with investors and landlords?

Yes. Investors renovating for resale, apartment owners, property managers and contractors all buy from us.

Do I need a permit to replace windows in Lorain?

Ask the City of Lorain Building Division at (440) 204-2045 before you order. The City's residential application has a line for window and door replacement. It asks for printed photos and whether the new units match the old in style, size and color.

Do Lorain rental properties have to be registered?

City of Lorain forms say all rental properties must be registered with the Building Department. Confirm the current rules with the City.

Does the lead paint rule apply to window replacement?

On housing built before 1978, it can. EPA says window replacement is always covered by its renovation rule, and the rule also reaches landlords and owners renovating to resell. Ask your contractor to show you the firm's EPA lead-safe paperwork.

What about a historic building in Lorain?

Ask the City first. If you plan to use Ohio's historic tax credit, the State Historic Preservation Office is part of that application, so settle the window plan before you order.

Do you install the windows?

No. We supply them; the contractor doing the work installs them. If you don't have an installer, we can recommend one from our list of trusted contractors.
